UnWholly by Neal Shusterman (Unwind #2) Review

WOW.

Unwholly just came out today, on August 28, 2012.  And let me tell you, it captivated me from the very first pages.

Wow.

OK, so unwinding is still widely practiced, the cutoff age is down to 17 instead of 18.  Unwinding is the new alternative to abortion; it is the practice/constitutional right whereby 'loving' parents give up their wayward teenagers to harvest camps where they become organ donors.  And by organ donors I mean that all of their organs are harvested and stored for later use.

Parallel to the unwinding is another creepy practice, the tithing.  Same thing, except the teens are not wayward and they see their predicament as an honor and a service to society

There's a whole camp of rescued teens who were either going to be unwound or tithed.  Some of those teens welcomed their rescue; others had to be pretty much kidnapped and then forced to comply.  The camp is called the Graveyard, and it is run by the characters from the first book in the trilogy, called Unwind.

And then there's Cam, a kid who was put together from the body parts of unwound teens!  "Intelligently designed," they called him.  For a unique purpose.

You won't be able to put the book down.

The plot is incredible.  The cast of characters is full of people from different backgrounds, ready to tell their own story.  Sometimes the author slips into 'head hopping' -- revealing the thoughts of more than one character in one scene.  It's not a deadly sin, but it is generally accepted that if you're going to reveal a character's thoughts, you may only focus on one character per scene, thus making it easier for the readers to keep it straight.  Regardless, it's a small inconvenience considering the emotional/action-packed story you get to enjoy.

Notice how my sentences are getting longer?  Yeah, I'm excited.  Be sure to grab a copy for yourself, it's going to make an unforgettable read.
